Sophie's Choice: Boobs or Butt - Survey Results!
What do men's sexual preferences for female body parts say about their personality and political orientation?
A month ago, I set out to settle the age-old debate once and for all— what do men’s sexual preferences for female body parts say about their personality and political beliefs?
After reading all my comments filled with some pretty interesting theories, I created a survey with over 30 question (see the questions here) and received over 1000 survey participants (thank you)!
Though the primary focus of this endeavor was the relationship between body-part preference and political orientation, I also threw in questions relating to demographic information, sexual preferences, Big-5 personality scores, religion, math skills, and even anime (plus more).
To skip to brass tacks, the results were pretty underwhelming from a research standpoint, but potentially optimistic from a human standpoint.
To start, here was the distribution of political orientation in my sample. As you can see, the distribution between left and right was pretty evenly normally distributed.
And here is the distribution for body part preference, with our two main players, as expected, receiving the largest amount of votes. Though there was a slight preference for boobs, it did not prove to be statistically significant.
After, I took a look at body-part preference by political orientation, and there were no statistically significant correlations between preference and politics.
This heatmap shows the contingencies for each group.
All in all, no meaningful correlations were found between any of the dimensions surveyed. Even things that I was sure would be tied together, such as a proclivity towards a mommy kink and preference for breasts proved unrelated.
And no matter how annoying we all find Walt Bismarck, there was no correlation between men who chose feet and any alarming personality traits. Though to be fair, in a sample of over 1000 people, only around 9 or so selected this option, and perhaps that speaks for itself.
Takeaway:
Though objectifying men based on the body part that they use to objectify us may seem like a useful heuristical shorthand, my research shows that there would be no evidence-based way to do this, and if you want to learn something about a guy’s character, unfortunately you’ll just have to get to know him better.
With twitter discourse over the past year (largely thanks to
) arguing the merits of the “aristocratic elegance of the small-breasted woman versus the Nietzschean pro-sex, pro-beauty large-breasted woman” versus the “evolutionarily superior, David Buss-backed, large-buttocksed woman”, and the subsequent psychologies of the men attracted to them, I think we can put the debate to bed once and for all.Perhaps there once was a simpler time where such typologies could reasonably exist, but our understanding of both politics and sexuality have become far too nuanced and convoluted, so gone are the days of decent men who are fiscally ass-men yet, socially boob-guys.
The good news is that if you’re a woman, regardless of where your assets lie, you will be equally likely to find a guy who will appreciate them no matter your political or personality preferences.
And now that this has been settled, let’s all get back to arguing over what’s really important— should we allow women to vote?
Something I find much more interested than the distribution of preferences themselves:
The strong instinct for people across the spectrum to evangelize about their preference! Skinny girl guys can't STAND that there are men on the internet who actually prefer a BMI in the 24-28 range and must visciously shame them and enforce what they see as the norm and vice versa.
Why the hell would anyone WANT every body to be attracted to the same things as them and compete with them for it? It makes no sense to me.
It looks like guys on the left were a lot more likely to prefer genitals, and men on the right to prefer feet. Which is odd.
Is there even such thing as a female with a foot fetish or is that an entirely male thing? Very hard to imagine any women liking male feet. My husband literally has the ugliest giant ogre feet I've ever seen, so thankfully I don't care about such things!
Also did you ask about age? Bc I feel like older guys would be more into boobs since pre-2000s everything was about big boobs and small butts, and that kind of reversed the past 20 years. Most playmates and models in the 90s and before had flat asses.
